Wesleyan is thrilled to be involved in The Big Read 2016 -- another city-wide project that will bring together the people of Birmingham and raise huge amounts of money for charity.

What makes it especially exciting for us is that it brings together two things that we have been very involved with in recent years – Birmingham Children’s Hospital and children’s books.

The Big Read will provide schools and community groups from throughout the West Midlands with the opportunity to be involved in a project that promotes literacy across the summer through various activities.

Over the coming months pupils and young people, inspired by their favourite books, comics, poems or literary characters, will decide on their designs and paint their BookBenches. The decorated sculptures will then be displayed over the summer holidays in libraries, cultural hubs and shopping centres for everyone to enjoy before being returned to participants to keep as a lasting feature and memento of the project.
